Reaching speeds of 68 miles an hour, sailfish are the ocean’s fastest fish. Their sheer size, shimmering dorsal fin, and spirited fight make them a favorite for trophy fishers all over the word – which is why December, the start of Sailfish season, is our favorite time of year!
Because these acrobatic fish prefer warmer water, Sailfish Season is determined by weather, specifically cold fronts and sea-surface temperatures. As soon as the first cold front hits the coast of Florida, you can expect to see these beauties appearing in large numbers, and they typically stay south until March.
With Stuart, Florida being the Sailfish capital of the world, you’re in the right place to partake in this exciting sport! But before you start your fishing expedition, make sure you know the regulations regarding fishing for these beautiful creatures of the sea.
Whether you’re a sailfish enthusiast or a casual spectator, you are guaranteed to enjoy one of the many events and tournaments that honor Florida’s favorite saltwater fish!
